Identifying a Collectible Doubloon

This is a very heavy doubloon or coin. It weighs approximately 5 grams. I researched it a little bit and I think it comes from an India festival "Mardi Gras like". Any advice?

Price of doubloons:

  • Many Mardi Gras doubloons were made only for the Mardi Gras.
  • During the festival the floats would throw these into the crowds and people would collect them.
  • Many collectors love to collect the old doubloons from the Mardi Gras.
  • The value of each doubloon is different and based on how many were made for this year.
  • Second, they base their value on popular the krewe is.
  • Basically there is a club for doubloon collectors that meet to swap out doubloons with other collectors.
  • The price for selling one of these online is very low. The price starts at $1.99 to around $4.00.
  • The more you have the price can go up to around $10 for a simple collection of 6 to 10.
  • This is more of a keepsake item and the only real value of such a coin is with other doubloon collectors.

If you Google "doubloon swap", you can take your doubloon there and get its value. A lot of them are not authentic, and it's hard to tell from just a picture.
