Identifying a Flying Insect?

Identifying a Flying Insect - tiny insect on white backgroundVery recently we've started seeing this insect on the walls and ceiling of the kitchen. They have a short life span and seem to be attracted to light sources. We've never seen them before so not sure if it's the weather. Please can someone help identify these and provide any tips on getting rid of them as their numbers seem to be increasing rapidly.

The photo is blurry. It almost looks like a crane fly, but I can't see the details. Does it look like this:

en.m.wikipedia.org/.../Crane_fly

It could also be a mosquito or a midget... this website has a lot of the look alikes:

It looks like a moth to me. It likes light and feeds on unwashed wool items.
