Identifying a Houseplant?

Identifying a Houseplant - dark green foliage plant with serrated edges on leavesI got this from work, but I'm not sure what type of plant it is. I wanted to cut it and see if it will grow roots in water?

Wow! I am totally stumped.

When I first looked at it, it looked like shiny poison ivy, but it is obviously not, although it could be in the ivy family.

My second and third thought I ruled out also...which were Achimenes and Plectranthus...unless they are some rare variety I am not familiar with (which is possible...Pgh usually doesn't do "rare").

This site has been on my radar, although I haven't tried it:

Can't hurt to ask her. Let us know what you find! I am so curious!!

I believe what you have is Gynura. I've read that one literal translation for this word is 'long tailed woman'. Under proper growing conditions, the newer leaves will be covered with purple hairs. This is why one of the common names for the plant is 'Purple Passion.

I've grown this plant. At the time I did, one of the common names was velvet plant.

Do look this up and let us know if I was correct.

After looking more closely, I'm sure this is not Gynura.
