In Memory of Dutchess

In Memory of DutchessDutchess was a very beautiful and loving German Shepherd. We will miss her greatly. One night, she became bloated and by the time we realized what had happened to her, it was really too late. She died quickly and I sat by her side and comforted her.

I had never heard of bloat or stomach twisting in dogs. She died because of internal organ damage after she became bloated. She will be missed greatly. She has graced the pages of Thriftyfun many times and brought us untold joy.

She will be waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge for us.

Dear Robyn, I'm so sorry that you lost Duchess this way. I heard of this problem, known as gastric torsion, at least 40 years ago when we were raising poodles. It usually happens in larger dogs. Our poodles were relatively small and it never happened to any of them, but we kept it in the back of our minds, just in case.

I'm so sorry you had to learn this the hard way, and it's surprising because you are so knowledgable about animals. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family.

Hi Robyn;
So sorry to hear about your loss. Even though Dutchess can never be replaced, I am sure there is another lucky dog out there who will find a place in your loving home. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dogs bring us so much joy when they come into our lives and such profound grief when they leave. RIP beautiful Dutchess.

I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss but try and find peace knowing she had a wonderful loving home and will always be in your heart. BLOAT is a common occurrence in Dogs caused by several factors just talk to your Vet
and they will explain every thing to you in the kindness manner. How old was this beautiful girl?

I have just lost my wonderful German Shepherd boy Tyson in sad circumstances x-ray showed he had Cancer we removed his Spleen but knew his time was limited however that gave him another 4 pain free weeks with us.

We lost him on Easter Sunday. Like your lovely girl he has crossed "The Rainbow Bridge" to join all my German Shepherds who have gone before and will be waiting for him and me. God bless you

I know the pain of a sudden loss of pet. I feel for you so much because we lost our Christina expectantly because we had no idea she had a problem. Out of the blue her back legs started crossing in front of one another and 10 days later completely crippled except for one paw and then to the rainbow bridge. We are in denial and angry that we did not see the signs or even know they were signs.

I just read this book which might be of some help to you, written by a doctor who also lost his dog. The book is "The Loss Of A Pet by Wallace Siffe, PH.D.
There are so many things that can take them from us, just like with people that die. It is sooooooo hard to understand WHY.
