Information About China Set?

A large set of china.I purchased a set at an auction, love the design. Curious to know what the year and value of the set would be. If I did decide to sell this set, what would be my best options. Thank you.

Due to the tremendous influx of fine china over the past several years the market is in a distressed place and value is low for almost every brand/pattern/age.
We're seeing so many families downsizing and this is one of the first items to hit the dust as most families rarely used/use their fine china.

A flooded market always reduces the value of items and along with that, it just isn't popular anymore.
The trend is for simple. microwavable, inexpensive dishes, or even mismatched ones found at thrift stores/yard sales.

Your pattern appears to have been made between 1918 to
1933. No exact year would be noted as the marks are the same for those years.
An appraiser valued a large set at $700 to $850 in 2020 but that would be insurance value. The retail value would have been at least 20-30% less.

A 28-piece set sold for $22 in 2020.

Value can only be found when there is a comparable item sold as the sold price shows what someone was willing to pay.

It looks like your set has several nice bowls with lids and platters; these are always more popular than other pieces. You could probably get your money back, plus extra if you sold the accessories separately.

Replacements.Com only has a few pieces of this pattern and these have been reduced which usually means it is not selling and they will not carry it once these pieces are gone.
They place the age of this pattern at 1921-.

You can find your china's mark on this site and dates show 1918 -.

What you paid for your set could be considered the value of your set in your area although the real value may be more.
I hope you like your set and use it often.

The site replacements.com says that the pattern Vintonia by NORITAKE is discontinued, circa 1921 -

www.replacements.com/.../69665

I found information about the stamp:

"Most back stamps after 1921 state "Japan" or "Made in Japan." From the early 1920 and probably until 1940 most if not all US market patterns were designed in New York. Marks with US Design Patent Pending probably dates to this period, to whatever effect it might have had to stop other Japanese companies to copy the modern and successful Noritake designs."

gotheborg.com/.../noritake.shtml#:~:text=In%201910....

Another site says that this stamp dates from 1921-1924
"Red & Yellow 1921/24 Noritake M 'MIJ'" (see 1920's)

www.noritakecollectorsguild.info/.../

This site also says that the stamp dates from 1921-1924
"Red / yellow Noritake mark
Noritake M Made in Japan Elysian 1921 - 1924 mark."

www.theoldstuff.com/.../201-noritake-marks

Your set was made in the period 1921-1924.

It is impossible to find such a large Noritake set with the same pattern on sale.

Therefore, be guided by prices for Noritake sets of the same period - 1920s. For example, I found 1920s Antique Noritake Majestic Dinnerware Set - 70 Pieces at $650

www.ebay.com/.../265222483803

83pc Noritake Romance Set Dinner Plates Platter Covered Dish Gravy Boat Japan at $849.95

tamarackshackantiques.com/.../

1920s Noritake Alicia Floral China Service for 8 Dinnerware Set - 56 Piece at $1,500

www.chairish.com/.../1920s-noritake-alicia-china-service...

But I think it's overpriced.
The price for which you can actually sell such a set is much lower.

Noritake china: wildfleur circa 1920's was sold for $40

www.varagesale.com/.../hkt465m4-noritake-china-wildfleur...

I would start on the high end $500-600 (I do not know how many pieces you have) and then negotiate down.

Fine china has drastically reduced in price nowadays, since there is not much demand for it. Yours looks like it has a metal border, which is even less in demand due to it not being dishwasher and microwave safe.

I've seen $1000 sets go for $50 and less where I live.

This Noritake Vintonia china sold for a winning bid of $170 in 2017. The set consisted of ten dinner plates, eight dessert plates, nine sherbet bowls, ten salad bowls, six cups and saucers, a large oval serving platter, a small oval vegetable bowl, two covered serving bowls, and a cream and sugar set.

It is a really big set. There is no information about how many pieces in the set, but market is crowded. I would start with the price $450

thedesignersconsignment.com/.../30668

Or sell in parts:

6 vintage Noritake Vintonia cups and saucers $14.99

www.ebay.com/.../2247394834

Set of 4 Vintage Noritake Vintonia Salad Plates Fruit Design Circa 1921 at $12.99
