Italian Hot Dish with zucchini on plateA delicious one dish meal, that tastes even better the next day. I baked it on the toaster oven so as not to heat up the kitchen. You can use any ground meat or pasta shape you have on hand. If you purchase all the items on sale this is also very economical.


Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Total Time: 70 minutes

  • 1-1/2 cup uncooked pasta
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms, divided
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese, divided


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook pasta according to package directions for al dente; drain.

  3. Meanwhile, in a large skillet coated with cooking spray, cook and crumble beef with 1/2 cup mushrooms, onion and green pepper over medium-high heat until no longer pink, 5-7 minutes.

  7. Stir in seasonings and tomato sauce; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered for 15 minutes.

  11. Top with meat sauce and remaining mushrooms. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese and 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese.

  13. Bake, covered for 35 minutes. Uncover; sprinkle with remaining cheeses. Bake until heated through and cheese is melted, 5-10 minutes.

Brown ground beef and onion; drain off fat. Stir in tomato sauce, parsley, oregano, basil, 1/4 tsp. salt, and pepper. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes, stir occasionally.

Prepare noodles according to package directions; drain. Mix together cottage cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, eggs, spinach, parsley, garlic salt and pepper in a large bowl.

This is easy, tastes incredible, and you don't have to cook the pasta beforehand, which saves you a step. Feel free to substitute whatever pasta shapes you have on hand!

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In 4 qt. Dutch oven, cook and stir sausage, peppers, onion and garlic over medium heat 6 minutes or until sausage is browned and crumbly; pour off drippings.
