Locating Free Tires?

A colorful collection of car tires used as planters.I'm trying make a memorial urn garden/cemetery for my husband. I found a photo on pinterest that uses painted recycled tires, arrayed and stacked, and planted with flowers. I'm in need of old tires and need a way to get them coz I don't drive. I'm willing to trade or pay it forward for any help.

Normally I would say to go to a garage that swaps out tires or even the recycle dump where people take their old tires and electronics. But considering you can't drive then you next choice would be to ask people in your neighborhood, post your request on FB, try to ask people on freecycle, or even post a wanted ad on Craigslist.

You can place a 'wanted' ad on Craigslist, Freecycle and Nextdoor but be sure to emphasize that they have to be delivered as you do not drive.

Also state that you will pay a reasonable price for delivery to your house.
I would suggest you start with Nextdoor as these will be in your area and may be more reasonable.

You can easily get free tires by going to any car service business such as Firestone and they have a lot of tires in a bin in the back of the service bays. Just ask to speak to the service manager, explain why you would appreciate it if they could give you the used tires that they are going to throw away and they will be delighted to get rid of them.

I see that several responders have suggested going to tire service centers but in Florida it is against the law for a dealer to do this.
The tire service center charges a 'disposal fee' to everybody who buys a tire and they are supposed to have this same number hauled away to a recycling center (they have to keep records of number of tires sold and recycled when sending the payment to the State of Florida).

Also, Florida tire centers are responsible for all used tires that come from their shops in case they are a problem for a driver (hence most tire dealers will not let anyone remove used tires from their lot as they do not know if that person intends to place it on a car and might make them responsible if it fails).

This is probably not true of all states but Florida laws are very strict (maybe Florida counties are different also?).
Individuals do not have this problem and will many times be glad for someone to take them off their hands.

I suppose they do not have any used tire shops in florida if you can't get good pull offs from the new tire dealers.
That makes no sense and is why this country is so messed up. I'm a used tire wholesaler in another state and the biggest thing that law makers want to curb us illegal tire dumps it isn't that they don't want people to buy used tires I believe they would rather people use all tires until they are worn out or damaged and dangerous to be in operation on a motor vehicle on state or federal highways. .

The promotion of buy used means let's use the resources we have then buy new or used again. But to recycle tires that have lots more miles on them is a rediculous waste and all it does is call for more tires to be manufactured and that means more waste being produced. .
Everyone know this is a fact but all this new waste tire fees is rediculous..if a tire has the waste tire fees paid when they are sold new then again when it's sold used and even again if it's resold for a 3 time then look at that and tell me that's fair that to me is what you call a bunch of political bull shit. That's like pay fuel taxes when you buy gas for a ATV then having to buy a permit to ride your atv that you also paid sales tax and taxes on fuel Everytime you ride it that the problem.

Then you get this problem they keep raising the waste tire fees even the average Joe walks in buy 4 new tires and pays the waste tire fees on the new tires but opts to keep his old to use on the farm like a hay trailer then the wear out on the trailer he pays to haul them to the local waste tire collection site the charge in my state $2 per tire well he bought them new paid $5; each then paid $2 again and then pulls the ones he purchased of his vehicle and repeat the same process keeps his old tires to use in farm equipment and pays fees on the new over and over .
This is what we call free country politicians get rich buy murking us around .
Then because of the rapid increase in waste tire fees becomes more illegal dump.site I see it everyday the dump site have increased by 5 times what they were before all the politics figured out how to fuck all Americans who owns vehicles . Which we pay sales tax .fuel taxes in every gallon we put in our vehicle's for life. We pay property taxes in them. We pay taxes on repair and services and tires plus the waste tire fees that is paid on every new tires tire sold in the great ol USA.

We are screwed anyone who believe this is fair is retarded. Just say. .

You could try posting on NextDoor and asking neighbors if they have any free/old tires you could use to recycle.

Do you have any family or friends you could ask?
