Locating the Source of a Terrible Smell Through the House?

I read loads of information about smells in the house which were great. Mine is not a dead animal smell, it's like a foul pond that has suddenly appeared from nowhere. More on one side of the house than the other. We have had the drains checked and the drains cleared and it is still there. It's a terrible and never ending smell and a bit humid too, and despite the drains being cleared, it is like sewage in the house, but not directly a smell of faeces. It's leaving a taste in the mouth which makes me want to vomit. Should I do more plumbers or get a surveyor or what? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Several years ago we had this issue. We learned that the gorgeous maple tree in our front yard roots had broke through the sewage line and were causing a back up of gases that were coming in to the house.

Our plumber got this resolved (it was not cheap and involved some some kind of giant auger at least I think that is the name of the tool. Like a plumbing snake, only bigger. Sadly, we had to have the offending tree removed (also not cheap) but the roots were causing all kinds of issues in addition to the plumbing, they were pushing on the foundation of the house.

The good news is that the problem went away after that. The bad news was, well, as I said, it was NOT cheap.

While I hope yours is not as costly as ours, it did fix the problem. It was wretched while we went through it. I feel your pain with this one.

Do you have any plumbing fixtures which are not used often? The odor can be coming from there. Gases can also come up from drains.

have you checked under the house. or put drain cleaning spikes. not draino but they are little like toothpick things that might help with the smell.
