Since the buttermilk pie calls for 2, 9 inch pie crusts, does that mean it makes two pies?

Most buttermilk pie recipes do not have a top crust on them and only one on the bottom. It sounds like the recipe you are using is for 2 pies and not just 1.
I looked at several buttermilk pie recipes and didn't see any with a top crust. Most of the time the recipe instructions will tell you to divide the mixture evenly between 2 crusts. One sure way to know is if the mixture is simply too much for one pie crust it must be divided into two.
I would think so as most recipes only call for one pie crust.
If you post the link to the recipe you are using, someone will be able to tell you for sure.
My apple pie calls for two crusts--one is the bottom, one is the top.
Perhaps that is what the recipe is saying? Maybe if you posted the recipe, I could help you figure it out.
