New Dentures Chafing?

My dentures were put in after the extractions, but now I have an underbite and cannot close my mouth and the small piece of skin under my tongue seems like it's being cut. I can't open wide enough to eat anything. I have a 1/4 inch opening total. Help somebody. Can I go ahead and trim these down?

Seems to me that the best person to ask would be the dentist who ordered the denture design and performed the placement. I would not recommend trying any changes yourself-this could make the problem worse and, also, may void whatever legal requirements you have on the dentures.
