After having all the towels end up in the same bathroom, leaving other bathrooms in the house with no towels, I came up with this solution. We have 4 bathrooms in the house, and 1 in the RV. All get regular use in this large family.
Each bathroom has its own color scheme. Towels match the bathroom. One bath has a yellow shower curtain and gets the yellow towels and washcloths. Our master bath is sage green, so all our towels, wash clothes and bathroom rugs and shower mat are sage green. The older girl's bathroom uses zebra print towels, the downstairs bath is light purple. The bathroom in the RV gets all other colors (left over from before we used this system) and white. I went with white as sometimes the camper is at the lake and the towels get dirtier in the camper. With white they can be bleached.
This saves arguments from the kids fighting over who took all the towels, and makes putting the laundry away go a lot faster.
In shared bathrooms, one gets the light yellow towels, while her sister gets the darker yellow towels. And, downstairs we do the same thing with light purple and darker purple towels.
No fights and with this system towels can still be washed together, kept in the same bathroom, but are easy to identify as to what household member they go to, as we use our towels more than once before washing them.
