My boyfriend's 16th is coming up in December and he is a guitarist. Any ideas about what to get him? He loves old cars, guitars, and rock music. Plus should I get him a present for Christmas and combine it with his birthday gift? It's my first time as a girlfriend for the holidays. :)

My son also plays guitar, strings are always a great gift and musical editing software is a great gift as well! Hope this helps !
Two small separate gives would be nice. I always feel bad for people who have December birthdays as they seem to get "shortchanged" with the holidays.
Perhaps you could make him something special like a guitar pick from recycled plastic. If you have a "song" that is yours perhaps you could get him the sheet music so he can learn to play it.

I would get him a separate gift for his birthday and would ask one of his friends, parents, or siblings if there's anything he's mentioned that he would like. If you can't find out any info, you could give him a gift certificate to a local music store.
You could get him a subscription to a magazine about old cars or guitars. If he plays guitar, sheet music is a nice gift also
First of all , make that two separate gifts, not his fault he was born in the "Christmas giving month " . Have you thought of taking him out to dinner at a nice restaurant or taking him on a date to a movie.
Bake him lots of cookies :-) A different kind for each celebration.

Agree that you would rather receive two gifts instead of one. Therefore, never combine a birthday present with a Christmas present.
