My books when I open them just say published in Great Britain. How do I know when they were published as the first lot of pages don't have dates. I've checked the back pages and there's nothing about publishing dates anywhere. Just 1768 on the front hard cover.

1768 is probably not the date it was published. The covers look too new. A dealer could help you pinpoint the date.
In cases like this if you can not find the date on the front or first pages or back pages of the book you will need to go to a book store for some help. They should be able to help you find the date these books were published.
I believe these are the 1968 anniversary edition. Are there 23 volumes?
I haven't seen one in person in a long time, but I thought the date was buried somewhere in the early pages.
There is still some value in these with some volumes selling at $10-15 a piece. If you add up how many you have, that could be a starting point and you could take best offer.
