Removing Acrylic Paint from Clothing?

How do I get blue acrylic paint out of a white sweatshirt? It's my friend's and I really need to get it out.

I would use an oxygen-based cleaner. Do not put in the dryer until you are sure the stain is out.

That can be tough. If the sweatshirt is cotton you will have the best chance of getting it out. Blended fabrics are going to be a challenge. I have blend shorts that I added acrylic paint to because I couldn't get the stain out--they actually look kind of cute, but that is not going to help you or your friend :(

Get two white towels...turn the shirt inside out. Put the one towel on the stain from the front of the shirt (so the paint can't bleed through on to the other side of the shirt.

Pour some (from the back) straight from the bottle Dawn dish soap--I prefer the Simple Blue kind not the fancy kind...do not use any of the ones with red or other colors in it...just the blue.

Rub it gently into the stain from the inside until it makes some suds. Add a few drops of cold water to get the suds going. The stain should come up after a few tries at this.

The important thing is to keep the towel on the inside, which is the right side so the paint does not go anywhere else once it is liquidated.

Do not dry this in the dryer until the stain is gone. Once it is gone, wash and dry normally.

I am an acrylic painting, and I think you are hooped. Sorry. You can certainly try the methods the others have suggested, but if the paint is dry, I don't think you will be successful. I have had limited success with picking it off or trying to scrape at it with my fingernail. You can get it out fairly well if you try washing immediately before it dries. Good luck.
