Removing the Thread Take-up Lever on a Singer 99 Sewing Machine?

I broke the thread take-up lever on my Singer 99 and need to remove it. Has anyone done this? We can't seem to remove it. We figured out the "lefthand" screws, but we can't get the whole mechanism out.
