Reversible Hot Pad
These are hot pads I made to coordinate with my dishes for a more decorative table setting. Definition of a hot pad - a pad for use under a hot dish to protect a table. (They are not potholders! Potholders are used for protection from the heat when removing something hot from the stove or oven.)
Because there are several colors in the dishes, I decided to make the hot pads reversible so I didn't have to make so many!
- fabric scraps
- sewing machine and thread
- Cut fabric according to desired size for hot pad. Cut a front from one fabric and a back from a coordinating fabric. Cut a piece of quilt batting the same size as fabric squares.
- Place wrong sides of fabric together. Place batting piece on the bottom. Pin around all sides, leaving a two or three inch opening on one side. Sew around perimeter of square. Trim seams and cut each corner piece diagonally to reduce bulk. Turn right side out. Pin opening closed. Top stitch around entire hot pad. Sew an X on top of the hot pad.
- Repeat these steps three more times to make four hot pads. When complete, you will have four hot pads with reversible sides. These are a few of the plates that will go well with the hot pads.
