Rocking Paper Bird - finished pink paper rocking birdThis one is a cute craft you can teach your kids to make to release the boredom from being stuck at home. Find colorful papers and make these cute little birds for your young ones.

Supplies:

  • colored art papers
  • pen/markers
  • glue
  • scissors
  • round patterns: big (9cm) and small (4cm)
Rocking Paper Bird - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Cut out two big circles using the bigger pattern and at least one circle from the smaller pattern.
  2. Rocking Paper Bird - two large and two small pink paper circles
     
  3. Fold the two circles together leaving a little space in the bottom.
  4. Rocking Paper Bird - fold the large circles (one inside if the other) as shown in the photo, not in half
     
  5. Cut the short flap in strips. See photo.
  6. Rocking Paper Bird - cut strips in the shorter side of the folded circles
     
  7. Pull the two circles apart and flip the strips of one circle to the other side. Then curl the strips of both circles with scissors. See photo. Set them aside.
  8. Rocking Paper Bird - after separating the circles curl the strips using blade of scissors

  9. Draw some eyes in a white paper, cut them out. Also cut 2 small triangles of orange paper for the beak, and 2 small oval shapes for the feet.

  11. Assemble the head.

    Rocking Paper Bird - glue eye and one triangle for the beak on one circle
     
  13. Take a 3 inch rectangular piece of paper and cut strips half way through it.
  14. Rocking Paper Bird - cut strips in 3" rectangle
     
  15. Now, let's assemble the whole thing. Take the head and glue it on the edge of the circle.
  16. Then glue the rectangle paper for the tail on the opposite edge.
  17. Rocking Paper Bird - tail in place and second circle glued to first, body complete

  18. Cover with the other circle.
  19. Attach the feet on the bottom of each side of the circle. Then open the bottom of the circles.
  20. Rocking Paper Bird - foot glued on
     
    Rocking Paper Bird - turn the bird over and open the other part of the circles a bit
     
  21. Put it on the table and pull the tail back down with your finger, then release! The bird will move like a rocking chair.
  22. Rocking Paper Bird - pushing the tail down to create the rocking motion
