Shirt and Tie Bookmark for Dad

Children will enjoy working on this simple and fun craft to make as a gift for Dad. Some of it is a bit tricky for younger children, but with a bit of help they can make and give this fun bookmark that Dad will be proud of.

  1. You will need a strip of paper 4.5cm x 21cm. 21cm is the length of the short edge of a piece of A4 paper (or the short edge of a piece of A5 paper).
  2. Measure and mark carefully using your pencil. A guillotine will give the best results for cutting, but scissors are fine in you cut carefully.
  3. Make a mark with your pencil 1cm from the top edge.
  4. At the same level divide the bookmark into thirds by marking every 1.5cm.
  5. Make a cut on each side.
  6. Fold the sides in to look like a shirt collar.
  7. Draw a tie. It's easier than you think. Make a circle for the knot and draw 2 long lines going outwards.
  8. Then draw a v shape at the bottom.
  9. Colour it in.
  10. Use a little dab of glue to hold the collar down.
  11. Make a dot on each side of the collar to look like buttons.
  12. Write your message.
