Simple Stromboli

My family adores Stromboli. It's really easy to make when you use pre-made pizza dough. You can use any amounts and combination of fillings. Here, I've used Portuguese linguica and a mix of veggies. I then threw it in my toaster oven. One of these is cheese-free for my dad!

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients:

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Add oil to pan over medium heat and cook onions and garlic until wilted.
  2. Add mushrooms and cook for a couple minutes, stirring frequently.
  3. Add spinach and cook until wilted. Add a bit of salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Divide the pizza dough into 2 pieces. Lightly flour a work surface and roll them out into rectangles.
  5. Spread tomato sauce around on dough, leaving the edges clean.
  6. Add mozzarella cheese.
  7. Place cooked spinach mixture on top, then add linguica.
  8. Fold one side of the dough over to the center, over the fillings.
  9. Fold the other side over, then bring the top and bottom folds over. Pinch everything shut.
  10. Sprinkle a baking sheet with flour and place Stromboli on top.
  11. Brush the tops with milk.
  12. Cut some slits on top so air can escape while baking.
  13. Sprinkle the tops with a bit of oregano, then bake in preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until golden.
  14. Top with some grated Parmesan. Slice and serve.

Yummmeeee, that sure looks good, as does all your beautiful recipes.

Almost sort of like a rolled up pizza in a way?

I've never tried this, and of course now I'm going to have to because it's making my stomach growl it looks so tastey! :)

Yes! Like a more compact and rolly calzone! What's great is when you have leftovers, you cut them and they're great for taking with you out of the house.
