How do I repair a steam iron that stopped working (won't heat up at all) after cleaning it with salt?

Did you put the salt in the machine or just clean the outside with salt?

If the salt actually went into the water chamber, be sure it is unplugged and cold and pour 1 cup of hot not boiling water with 1 tablespoons of white vinegar into the chamber and turn it on the lowest steam setting. That may melt the salt if it has dried and caked inside blocking the steam holes.

If the salt was used on the outside, take a toothpick and poke steam holes again make sure it is cold and unplugged. Try using plain tap water on a steam setting when done.

If this doesn't work, Google the customer service number for the brand and see what they say.

I cleaned it from the outside, I tried poking the steam holes, but still, nothing happens. It doesn't heat up at all. Thank you anyway!

This may be a dumb question, but I have to ask because it happened to me...is the electrical outlet you have it plugged into working? I ask because when our shredder stopped working, I went nuts, only to find out that that plug was the only one in the house on a breaker that clicked off.

I felt so dumb...but it was a good lesson to check the basement first...then start on the item itself...just a thought...

It is working, I've tested it on multiple outlets, that was the first thing to do...but no... I wish it was an outlet... Thank you anyway!

Try flushing it with vinegar a few times.

I would, but it doesn't let me use steam, it doesn't heat up at all.

If it does not heat up at all, cleaning it might have blown its fuse.

Hi all, So I had the same problem and here is how I solved it. Wiped the bottom of the iron with warm vinegar. Used a toothpick (dipped in vinegar) to clean all the holes. Put vinegar and water solution in the machine (it was cold and would not turn on -- water/vinegar solution was hot -- let it sit for 5 minutes, swished it around in the container).

Dumped the water/vinegar solution from the machine; rinsed inside with warm water. Rinsed outside with warm water (ran it under a faucet to get the holes rinsed as well). And when I plugged it in, it worked. Will clean it again (hot water/vinegar solution with the iron on) but just ironed with it and it worked great. Hope this helps.
