Thumbprint Cookie Dough Spreading?

I mixed my cookie batter to make thumbprint cookies, however I didn't have time to bake them so I refrigerated the dough overnight. Now the dough is too sticky and the cookies are coming out flat. How do I remedy this? Should the dough be room temperature or cold? Should I add more flour to the batter? I'm afraid that it might take away the flavor.

My recipe calls for the dough to be refrigerated overnight. I use a frozen (I put several metal ones in the freezer and when one warms up, I swap with a cold one) to measure out even dough balls.

If yours did not tell you to refrigerate the dough, bring it to room temp before you work with it. Use a little Pam or butter on your spoon to prevent sticking.

Do not put them on a hot (or warm) cookie sheet (it should be at room temp). I would not add anything to them.

Hope you can save the dough! Post back with updates.

Normally dough like this should be refrigerated overnight or for a few hours before making the cookies. When you take the dough out of the refrigerator it should sit out and be at room temp before working with the dough.

This makes it easier to roll into balls and make the cookies. I would not add any more flour to the dough. If it is too sticky you can try to use some plastic wrap to roll the dough with.
