This is a fun way to tackle a pineapple that keeps you from having to peel, core and slice. This is best done with a super ripe pineapple because the flesh is easy to twist and pull at. You will need one pineapple and one sharp pairing knife.

  • 1 very ripe pineapple
  • Sharp Knife

  1. Cut the top of the pineapple off, using the zig zag lines of the fruit as a guide.

  3. Keep the crown of the pineapple because you can use this to root and grow a whole new pineapple in some soil.
  4. Lay the pineapple down and roll it around to soften up the fruit segments.
  5. Stand the pineapple up and use you fingers to pull the segments apart with a twisting motion.

I rarely purchase a fresh pineapple because they are such a pain to remove the skin without losing a lot of the fruit. Well, here was a 'duh' moment when a neighbor shared with me how she peels a pineapple.

Cut off the top and bottom and then make a complete lengthwise cut along the peel into the flesh and then cut your slices. Once sliced just lift the the edge of the peel that was cut and pull it away. Core each slice if you would like or need to with a paring knife.

Cutting a fresh pineapple is not nearly as daunting as most people think. One day it just occurred to me to use my electric knife instead of a chef's knife. I buzzed through it in no time with very little waste. Oh so easy!

This is a page about peeling a pineapple. Pineapples can be difficult to peel, due to their prickly exterior. It is ideal to remove all the rough bits without wasting too much of the fruit.
