My hair is dyed bright orange. I want to tone it down a bit, keep the orange, but just go for a much darker orange, a more burnt orange. The hair is already bright and light. Would I be able to put a darker orange dye over it without bleaching it?

Yes. You only need bleach when you're going lighter. You might want to try a semi permanent dark orange or light auburn and not process it too long.
I am all about hair health! Talk to a good stylist to check your hair and make sure it is healthy enough do further treatments and have them offer a solution that will cause the least amount of stress and damage.
If you are in a cold climate like I am, it adds even more stress to treated hair so be kind to your hair!
