Using a Slow Cooker Liner in the Oven

I want to make candied yams in my crockpot, using a liner. But I will need to toast the marshmallows on top in the oven. Is it okay to do this with a liner for the crockpot?

While I am not 100% clear on the question, I will tell you not all crock pot inserts can go in the oven so check your crockpot book to make sure yours is. I NEVER use an insert period, but I do not, most, if not all are NOT oven safe and can cause a fire. Read the package carefully or call the company if you are amendment about putting a liner in the crock pot and the whole thing into the oven.

I know the liners make for easy clean up but I don't like using them for fear of what leaches out of them into my food. That is just me and is one of my food quirks!!

You would be best served toasting your marshmallows separately and adding them to the top of the crockpot when they are done. Safety first here is my motto!

No. Crock pots operate at temperatures of 250 F or less. Ovens are hotter and will melt the liner.

I hope you found another way to fix your candied yams but I would say that if you really needed to use your slow cooker/crockpot for cooking yams you could transfer the yams to an oven safe dish/pan to toast your marshmallows.

The only suggestion here is to make sure your "oven safe" dish can take the extreme heat of the top element.
