Nutcrackers, in general, have always been popular but there are so many presently available that it makes it a 'buyers market' and people can usually find any item they choose listed for different prices so they have a wide choice.
There are presently over 16,000 (all sizes, brands, materials) listed for sale on eBay alone, so this shows they are a popular item.
However, the number sold is a very small percentage of the number listed for sale.
The biggest problem that I see is how many of the Mickey Mouse Nutcrackers are actually available, and so many are 'look alikes'.
There appears to be several companies making these figurines.
