A friend once asked me years ago how I get my kids' hair to look so neat and stay in place. I said detangler, bobby pins, and hairspray. Lot's of hairspray! :)
This hair-style is not just for kids. This is an elegant up-do that would be just the thing if you were going to a wedding or fancy party. It is easy to do and gives dramatic results reminiscent of years gone by. Have fun!

Total Time: 20-25 minutes

Source: Based on a book I found at a garage sale.

  • detangler or water, for wetting the hair
  • brush
  • rubberbands
  • bobby-pins
  • hairspray
  • decorative hair pin optional

  1. Wet and brush hair. Wetting it will make your hair-do easier and lay better.

  3. Make a simple pony tail.
  4. Split the hair behind the rubberband with your fingers.
  5. Push your thumb and pointer finger up from the bottom through the space you have made.
  6. Push the ponytail upwards and grab with your fingers. Pull the ponytail down through the hole.

  8. Now separate the ponytail into 3 equal sections.
  9. Braid and put a rubberband around each section.
  10. See the long end?
  11. Twist it around the band at the end to tame it.
  12. Keeping the twisted end pinched tightly between your fingers, insert it here.

  14. Secure with a bobbypin and this is how it looks.
  15. Repeat with the other 2 braids.
  16. Add a decorative barrette or hairpin if desired. I ordered this one for only a few dollars off Amazon awhile back.
  17. See?
  18. You're ready to go!

  20. Have fun!
