What Breed and Age is My Dog?

A small brown and white puppy.I was told that Hudson here was 6 weeks old and a full-blooded pit. Not so sure if he is full-blooded or if he is 6 weeks, considering he seems younger than 6 weeks.

Your dog looks very young for sure. No matter what the age of the dog is around 5-6 weeks that one is sure. You need to get the dog to the vet right away and start a series of puppy shots for the dog. At this point, the vet can verify the exact age of your dog. Dogs need to really start their series of shots at this age in order to protect them against different illnesses they are prone to get. Right now it is so hard to tell if the dog is really a full-blooded pit or not because the dog is so very young. I am not sure if you have purchased the dog or were given the dog as a gift.

No matter, if you did purchase the dog they should have given you some type of paper on the parents to prove the dog is full-blooded. I would ask for these papers to make sure if the dog is what they claim the dog is. Take the dog to the vet as soon as possible and start the series of shots. Here we get shots 3 times for our puppies and they are given every 2 weeks for 6 weeks. This is the most important thing you can do right now for your dog is to protect the dog immediately.

Hudson is too sweet!! I would get him in to the vet to check. 6 weeks is often considered much too young to wean so I would want a vet to check him over and if he needs supplemental milk, get that and get him on a feeding schedule.

As for his breed, hard to tell when that young! He does have a lot of lines of a Bull Terrier (like the target dog), but his snout is softer than that breed. He may be a mix.

The vet can see what we can't and can give you more.

Post back with updates on that sweet puppy face!! Wishing you many lovely ventures and adventures together!!

Your puppy does look full blooded pit to me. As you said he is very young. Send us a picture in another couple months and it will be easier to tell if he is a mix. Do get puppy shots started right away.

Hudson looks to be 6 to 8 weeks, and also a Pit bull. Only a Vet can tell you for sure, which soon you should see for shots and check up. Here is a link on Pit bull history, and how this blood line has many looks and names.

I think I would have to call him a 'love' breed.
Not sure of his size from your picture but he is probably in the range of 6 weeks.
Full blooded? Probably not unless you bought him from a registered breeder and that would mean he was very expensive and would have papers showing his breeding background/history - and the papers would state the actual date of his birth. A DNA background history would also usually be provided.

Since you probably did not receive papers, you only have the word of the person selling you the dog as to his breeding and very few non-registered sellers will have a pure bred pit.
He probably has a lot of pit but may be mixed with 2 to 3 other breeds as pure bred means there was never another type dog in his past and the seller has proof of this.
Mixed breed dogs are sometimes healthier than pure bred and usually can be trained to be a loving family pet.

If you truly wish to know his background you can use a DNA test. Kits can be bought online or at pet stores or your vet and cost runs from $45 to several hundred according to how in depth you wish to go.
Your vet can probably help you with his breed but they cannot tell you if he is purebred.
You will need to start him on his first year shots/vaccinations so he will be protected from all of the all to common diseases floating around.
