Toffee Dessert


  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
  • Ad

  • 1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped
  • 1 box vanilla wafers, finely crushed
  • 1 cup blanched almonds, slivered and toasted
  • whipping cream


Cream butter; gradually add powdered sugar. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add chocolate and vanilla. Fold in egg whites and whipped cream. Spread half of vanilla wafers in 10x10 inch pan. Pour chocolate mixture over wafers. Mix almonds with remaining vanilla wafer crumbs and sprinkle on top. Refrigerate overnight. Cut in squares and top with whipped cream.

I think I would be a little concerned about the egg yolks not being baked in some way. Did you leave something out of the directions?
