If you have a small computer table or desk; drape a furry blanket upside down over it, smooth side up; and place your computer there. This makes it hard to slide.
If you have a cordless/laser mouse, use the heavy card stock mail advertisements send out, as a mouse pad. Be sure and use these two methods together for optimum results.

I found out many years ago that mouse pads are not a necessity! I haven't used one at all in many years and my mouse works just fine. If you feel you just have to have something, you could make a cover for your entire desk top and that would suffice for a mouse pad.
