Apple Ketchup

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 216 Posts
This is a delicious change of pace from tomato ketchup. It goes particularly well with pork and chicken.

Ingredients:

  • About a dozen tart apples, enough to make a quart of sieved apple.

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. mustard powder
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 medium onions, chopped fine
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups vinegar

Directions:

Peel and quarter the apples and stew them until they are soft using as little water as possible. Put them through a food mill, or a blender until as smooth as possible. If you are using a blender, make sure you remove the seeds when you cut them up. Add the rest of the ingredients, and cook on medium low heat, stirring often, until it thickens. Put in sterilized half pint jars and process for 10 minutes.
