Using Developer When Dyeing Hair?

I need help for my hair color. I use 4N- medium natural brown from Ion Brilliance semi permanent hair color. My natural hair color is black and I have about 50% gray. I use 2 oz of color and 2 oz of 10 vol developer.

I use 10 vol developer because I want just a deposit of the color and not a lift. The gray coverage/blending is decent. Will using a 20 vol developer give better results?
