Getting a Hoya to Bloom

If you are having trouble getting a Hoya to bloom, try it directly in a west window and remember when it does bloom, let the blossoms fall as another will take it's place in the same spot on the vine.

Does the plant need strong light? I have mine in a west window with good light , not direct sunlight but good light all day, It has been there for over a year with no flowers, and it does have the long branches that I assume would have had flowers on them. I'll take any advice, it's a good sized plant too. thanks a million

They can take years to flower. And I think they at times shut down from flowering. I have a 45 year old number eight crinkle hoya and it has lowered for at least 40 of those years. But this year there hasn't been one single flower.

Once it does flower, just let the flower fall off because it will continue to bloom from the same spot over and over. If you get rid of that sort of stump that it will take years to re-bloom. Good luck.

The fragrance off the bloom will fill your home, too. It glistens with nectar beads..and lasts for quite some time.

I've attached a pic of a bloom before it opens...

My mother had one that was huge. Everytime we would move the house was not acceptable if there was not a suitable location for that plant. I never knew it was a Hoya until I was an adult. It was always called the brides tears however dad always called it the PIA.
