Crocheted Wrist Cuffs

When it's not cold enough for gloves, but you want to keep your wrists and palms warm, consider this quick and easy craft.
It's also great for stuffing in your favorite Stocking!

Approximate Time: 1 to 1.5 hours

Supplies:

  • 4 ply yarn your choice of color
  • size 5.5o mm or 1/9 hook
  • darning needle or you can crochet the seam closed

  • 36-38 yards of chosen yarn
  • scissors
  • optional: Pompoms, buttons, little critters for animal lovers, etc
  • clip if you want to keep them with purse or coat.

Instructions:

From your loop, chain 27, turn.

Your 27th stitch is now your first for the next row. Make a single crochet in each of the rest of chain.

Chain 1 and turn. Make a single crochet in the back stitch of each of the previous stitches, to end of row.

Chain 1 and turn, repeating this row on the back stitch of each previous stitch till you have made 24 rows.

Note: If your hands are bigger, you may have to adjust the number of rows to make sure the cuffs fit and do not get stretched out.

If your sister has slender hands, perhaps make the total just 22, but if your mom has hands a bit bigger than you, you may want to try 26 rows, etc.

If you have to make it bigger, you will need more yarn, so if you are working off a skein don't worry about it. If not, don't measure off 36 yards and then find you don't have enough.

If you have a lot of scraps, this is fun to use them up.

Thumbhole:

When the desired width is accomplished, bring both the beginning and ending row together, and either crochet up to (or sew up to) stitch 16, then either tie off or weave the yarn past the thumb hole and leaving a gap of 6 stitches, then sealing up the rest. Break off and weave in tail.

Make another one, and either leave simple or decorate with pompoms or your choice of embellishments.

If you can, put them on a small clip that can be attached to purse or coat.
