Heat and humidity. I used to live in the desert, and never had a problem with this. We moved to the Heartland, and this past summer was hot and humid. The marshmallows became a huge blob in their bag!

WildIrish is correct. Moisture. They should be stored in an airtight container. You can separate them by dusting with powdered sugar as you pull them apart.

And the reason the moisture affects them so much is because of their sugar content.
