My Janome 415 jammed and I dropped the feed dog and removed the bobbin and cleared the jam. The feed dog will not go back up. Is this something I can fix?
Normally you can fix this but it means that you will need to take the bobbin,k casing and plate off the machine to get to the feed dog to put it back in place. It can be a bit tricky to do this but it is not that hard to fix it or get it adjusted again. Just remove the stitch plate that has 1 scew. Now put the arm up to give you room to work. Take the needle off. Now you can see the feed dog and it is easy to adjust it and get it set back in place.
if you remove the bobbin, case, and plate you should be able to dislodge the stuck bits, and then it should work again.
The feed dogs should return to the proper position after you flip the switch back (I'm assuming you tried this!) and start sewing again. I had the same problem and my manual for the 415 says to start sewing.
I have an Elna 745 and I followed the instructions in the manual for a rolled hem, but when I sew the fabric will not feed. It is sewing in place.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? I have checked the threading, the settings, and still nothing is working.Make sure you don't have a buildup of thread or a piece of material in the machine.
Check your thread tension. Your bobbin case might be getting stuck.
i have found that most sergers are basically the same design so troubleshooting will usually apply to a large number of brands.
here is one suggestion:
Here are some sites that give a lot of information about troubles with a rolled hem. Maybe one of them will help you solve your problem:
www.the-sewing-partner.com/
www.fixya.com/
if none of this solves the problem you can try asking Elna:

I had the same problem. I had recently oiled my machine ... but not enough. I opened everything up and followed the trail of moving parts until I found something that wasn't moving quite at its full range. Hit it with D-40 to clean the gunk out and oiled it up and it's moving beautifully.
I have a vintage Fleetwood zig zag machine. It works great on straight stitch, but when on zig zag it won't feed the fabric.
You might have to adjust the cam on your sewing machine. Your manual will tell you how to do this.
This is a Japanese made machine and these older models were some of the best ever made. I have a similar one and the finish is like glass it is still beautiful.
I have located several site that have a "contact" link where you can ask a question and hopefully get an answer to your problem. But mainly, the links give information about buying manuals so you may still be able to find one. Most of these machines are compatible with another brand/make so you may be able to get that info from one of these sites. Be very sure to ask questions (email) before buying one of the "unseen" manuals.

This link is for another Fleetwood model but it has so much information that I have included it just in case you were interested.
Juki feed dogs don't come back up and can't use reverse, it is frozen.
Make sure there are no threads or bits of fabric jamming it, and that the machine is oiled properly.
These are expensive (and sometimes sensitive) machines so maybe you should try getting help at one of your local quilting shops.
Hopefully you have one that specializes in using the Juki machine but it would not hurt to ask for help at any shop.
Usually someone in these shops has repair knowledge and will offer help free of charge.
Some machines require oil while others do not so be sure to find out before attempting this solution.
Here is a free download of the manual that will probably have troubleshooting sections and maintenance instructions.

i have the manual.. but it isn't the repair guide I need
The material will feed through under the foot if on a zig zag stitch, but will not on a straight stitch. I have cleaned and changed the needle. Any ideas? Thank you.
There is something stuck in the path of the straight stitch. The zig zag stitch is going to the left and right of the jammed area.
can you take that plate out? there is something that is stopping those feet from coming upp en ough to grab the material. mayb e piee of string ??? try canned air too. good luck
The sewing machine is not feeding the fabric. It's not the feed dogs, as I've checked, cleaned, and oiled them. Maybe the reverse lever stuck, but I'm not too sure since the feed dogs still move back and forth when I press the reverse lever.
A spring has broken off though. I am not sure where its supposed to be.time for some professional help or you can try and find a manual for your machine online(especially if it is not new). If it is, I would try to contact the manufacturer concerning the spring(chances are the missing spring may have something to do with your fabric.
Lots of info on the internet. Thread tension may be too tight.
Could you tell me the outcome of the missing Spring as I have the exact same problem thanks
I have a Singer tradition 23 stitch sewing machine. The teeth on the machine are not feeding the fabric.
The wheel will not turn to move the teeth. It will move when winding bobbin. What can I do to fix it?Did you clean the undercarriage? I don't recommend canned air (for me it always makes things worse), but take a small brush and brush any threads and dust away from the machine. This is one of the fixes I use when my Kennmore gets stuck
Post back with an update!
PS, there are lots of troubleshooting videos on YouTube if this suggestion doesn't work.
You may have the machine in bobbin-winding mode. You have a wheel within a wheel on the side of the machine. You have to turn each wheel in the opposite direction to get it to sew again.
I have a Singer Touch and Sew 756. My feed dogs have stopped feeding fabric. All the settings are where they should be.
The feed dogs don't move and are lower than the needle plate and are rubber. You might need to take the throat plate off and clean any dust, thread and fabric out.
The reverse function on my Kenmore, model 385 sewing machine stopped working so I forced the fabric back and forward several times. Now it has stop moving the fabric. I would like to know if this could have damaged the timing?
You might have damaged the feed dogs. That is my first thought. If you are lucky, some fabric or thread may be clogging it. Take the needle plate off and use a flashlight to see. Use tweezers to remove debris carefully.
You may have popped the spring under the dogs.
If you are handy, you can probably replace it (if it isn't broken).
If it is broken, you can try taking it to a fabric store and see if they have one that matches it.
Hope it is an easy fix for you.
The fabric is not feeding through my sewing machine. Yes, my feed dogs are up and moving properly. The sewing length is not zero and my thread tension is fine (it's at a 2). Nothing seems to be caught (I even lifted up the panel, cleaned it all, detached and attached the presser foot, and all). I have tried with many different fabric amounts and feels. And yes, the fabric moves through and it stitches, but only when I pull from behind.
I have a Kenmore 385, please help : (
Check and make sure your bobbin isn't backwards.
The tension doesn't look right to me.
I have a Mercury M-280L industrial sewing machine. It doesn't feed the fabric well because the pressure foot doesn't touch the feeds. The pressure foot has about 1/8 inch between foot and feeds. It's been sewing fine and now I can't get the foot to sit against the feed dog. I was just beginning to sew and hit the reverse handle and then noticed that I didn't have any control of the fabric.

You may need to adjust the pressure foot. Read more here: www.silveradosierra.com/
I was given a Singer 1280 by a coworker recently and I cannot seem to get the feed dog to move or work at all. I downloaded a copy of the manual from the Singer web site and did a lot of searching on the web on how I can fix this myself to no avail.
Does anyone know where else I can look or what I can do to fix this?My machine sews a scrap OK, but the valance I'm working on in the same material, same thickness sits and sews in one spot. It will not feed material along.
Make sure the valance is not hanging off the sewing table. The weight of it may cause the machine not to feed.
My old fashioned Singer machine is broken and a friend has lent me his machine, a Brother XL-5500. Everything threaded, but when I go to sew, it stitches, but fabric stays in the same place. I can't even understand the manual. I need it to sew and move!
By Annie
There is thread or fabric stuck in the feed dog. Take off the needle plate and clear it out.
