Barbecue Fuel Tank Hazard

I recently was using the BBQ and had to change the tank. I was lazy and didn't put the tank under the BBQ where it belongs. We had a freezing rain one day then I tried to use the BBQ. It shot flames out about six inches. I realized the regulator had leaked in water and it had frozen the valve inside open allowing full gas pressure which is too high.
