Breaker Keeps Tripping?

I have been living in my apartment for the last three years and have never had a breaker trip before now. My living room breaker started tripping a couple of days ago suddenly, and so far it has happened three or four times since then. It appears to only be affecting the outlet where I have a surge protector plugged in with the television, DVR box, Blu Ray player, and a small lamp attached. I have changed nothing, and added no new items so I'm not sure why the breaker is tripping all of a sudden. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm worried this could be something dangerous.

If you live in an apartment, I assume you have a landlord or, if it is a coop or condo, someone to call for maintenance. I would not be attempting this myself.

Surge protectors go bad. Unplug it and if it still happens, call the landlord ASAP! Electricity is nothing to mess with.

Hi,

I agree that it could be the surge protector needs to be replaced. If you do replace the surge protector and the circuit stops tripping then you have solved the problem.

On the other hand, the surge protector could have too many items plugged into it. The next time you see the circuit trip, unplug one item from the surge protector and see if it trips. Having less plugged into the surge protector may solve your problem.

If the circuit continues to trip then the landlord needs to be notified and an electrician called.

Have a blessed day!

a good surge protector is a good stopgap measure if it works but if it still doesn't solve it, the there are other issues

also try not to have so many things on the same circuit especially things like big appliances, heaters, etc

Did you try a new surge protector? Removing items?

If it that didn't resolve, be sure to tell your landlord ASAP!! This could be a safety issue and you want to keep everyone safe!!
