A castle or church in Bulgaria.I love asparagus in almost anything!


  • 2 (regular size) cans asparagus, drained
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • Advertisement

  • 1 cup crushed soda crackers
  • 1 tsp. dry onion flakes
  • salt and pepper, to taste


Arrange asparagus in 2 quart casserole or 9x13 inch glass dish. Mix in cracker crumbs and onion. Beat eggs; add milk, salt, and pepper. Pour over asparagus. Bake at 375 degrees F for 40-50 minutes until set in middle of dish.

Prep Time: 10-15 Minutes
Cooking Time: 40-50 Minutes

Place cabbage in bottom of 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with sauerkraut, then rice. Pour water over mixture. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat, add onion and saute' 6 minutes or until tender.

I have a friend who taught me how to cook the very popular Bulgarian national dish Mesenitza, it's also called Tutmanik. It is bread stuffed with cheese. This is a very tasty and cheap meal.


The recipe varies, but the basic ingredients are flour, yeast, oil, milk, butter, eggs, yogurt and cheese. Bulgarian cheese is called sirenje or sirene, it can be replaced with Greek feta.
