Can You Guess What Breed Our Dog Is?

A dog on grass near a driveway. Our one year old male German Shepherd is mixed with what other breed? He's a big, awesome, smart dog. He loves tennis balls and hes a great catcher. He loves jumping in the air to catch the balls. He can be mean if he doesn't get what he wants.

Looking at his body, he may have some lab in him. You can always do a DNA test to find out for sure.

We are all taking guesses without a DNA, I am going with, Golden Retriever & German Shepherd. This is called a Golden Shepherd. He is truly very handsome .This breed doesn't bark a lot, but is a family dog that shares a lot of both of these breeds, here's a look - www.popsugar.com/.../cutest-photos-golden-retriever-german... - and info on this breed- www.mydogsname.com/.../

What a handsome pup. Looking @ his face, your boy appears to have some lab in him. His ears and tail def look shepard. If you have a DNA test done, please post the results back here.

Beautiful dog.
You say 'our one year old male German Shepherd' so I'm guessing 'someone' told you he was a German Shepherd mix?

He is very blond (light colored) and does not appear to have any black coloring anywhere on his face/body and I have never seen any pictures of any German Shepherd that did not have black on his face and usually in many places on his body. They usually have some black inside their ears, a slightly thicker looking coat (especially around the lower ears/neck). I also think they have a heaver, more broad front chest/legs.

The closest 'German Shepherd mix' that I can find would be a Shepkita (German Shepherd / Akita) as the Akita does have a lighter coat and is a somewhat slimmer dog.
Also, you mentioned he can get mean if he doesn't get what he wants and this sounds a lot like an Akita as they can actually get 'mean' if not controlled.
Look at #13:

I cannot find a picture of a German Shepherd that does not have some black.

Many people are going for a DNA because the test not only shows breed mixes but also provides information about their future health and other facts. The DNA test kits can be purchased online, pet stores and your vet. The test kits usually start at about $65.
Have you asked his vet about breeding? They can usually see a lot more than anyone can see in a picture and they also know their weight and measurements as well as overall build.
I hope he has had all of his first year shots/vaccinations as these are so very important.
It is so sad when people tell us about their puppies getting Parvo and they sometimes feel like they are just waiting for their pup to die.
So glad yours is so healthy.

Hello thanks for answering to my question. The mother of my dog was a full breed German Shepherd with the black and golden brown colors. The funny thing about her pups was that she had 3 gold and 3 black shepherds.

I have pics of the dogs. Im just looking for any information on him. He has all his shots and well taken care of. We are all in love with him.

Wonderful news to hear! You have to forgive me if I sounded 'desperate' but I worry that pet owners just do not know how important these first year shots are and then when their pup gets sick, it's too late.

Your pup has probably picked up whatever happens to be the second breed as his dominate breed and that is why he does not have the black characteristics of the German Shepherd.
I hope you get his DNA done and please post back with the results - we would love to know more about your pup.

I think you have Shepherd Husky mix. But a genetic testing can really help you: www.hartz.com/.../
