Cause of My Dog's Death?

Cause of My Dog's DeathMy house was broken into and my red nose Pit Bull was gone. I looked all night for him and have an idea who could have done it if it was foul play. I found my dog at 7 am and he was by a garbage can right off the side of the road directly behind my house.

His tongue was sticking out and it looks like his jaws were locked and his tongue was blue. He had a small cut on his lip and inside his mouth looked swollen. Beside that there wasn't blood like he was hit by a car. He was swollen, but his eyes were not blood shot or dilated. They did not turn red until the next day.

I'm including 2 pictures one showing how I found him and the other before I buried him. My dog went everywhere I went. I left him one time at home with the doors locked for only four hours I came back home my back door was wide open. I feel like it's haunting me. I must know what happened to my dog. He doesn't look he was hit by a car to me. In the second picture you can see he barely started bruising around his face that was day 2. I couldn't bury him right away and his eyes started turning red

What a tragedy! I am sure your dog died of trauma related to his beating and subsequent injuries.

Beating?
I know without the person being there no one can be 100% sure, but Id like to hear what you have to say. Vets, people with pets or have went through something like this. 1 st Dog ever, had him 5 yrs, and love him, as apart of my family.

So many questions as to how because my back door was pried open.
If he was hit by a car there would for sure have been blood?
Beating? Is that what it looks like?

This situation just sounds heartbreaking. You have my most since sympathy on your loss and prayers around the whole situation.

I hope you had the police involved since it sounds like there are several crimes that occurred (like breaking into your house, theft if things were stolen, and if the person/people let the dog outside, I don't know if there is a reckless endangerment for animals like there is for people, but if someone broke in and let the dog out, that could be reckless endangerment).

Did the police see photos of the dog? Did you show the dog's vet?

I would look to experts for what may have happened. Crowd sourcing will only provide speculation that may lead you down the wrong paths and cause greater anxiety. A vet can tell you what the signs and symptoms you saw may relate to. The police even may have some feedback since they see it all also.

Please post back what the police tell you and if you are able to get any feedback from the vet.

Prayers continue.

I've had two cats in my life that were hit by cars and died. No signs of blood, but the vet felt there may have been internal bleeding and injuries.

I am so sorry about your dog. It looks to me like he was struck. It would be very difficult to tell if it was a car or a human. If you involve the police you may gain better information.

You may be able to determine who (if anyone) broke into your house. Police are good at evaluating a crime scene. I hope you are able to put this tragedy to rest.
