Clematis Niobe - beautiful red flower with dark edges

Photo Description
Ever since I've had this flower, I wondered about the meaning of its name, but never bothered to find out. Today, I checked. I was pleasantly surprised.

I won't go into the stories behind the name except to say Niobe was a character in Greek mythology, a favorite subject of mine while in grade school.

Early morning light provided the opportunity for me to capture a pretty good likeness of Niobe's true color. The plant does not bloom profusely. When it does bloom, I find the flowers to be spectacular. A nice example of 'Less is more'.
