The finished concrete soap holder. If you need a soap holder, make one yourself. Cement and pebbles are great for this. You will spend quite a bit of money and get an original soap holder. Of course, you can just stick the pebbles into the cement, but then the tops of the pebbles are unlikely to be on the same level. I came up with the idea of first laying pebbles in a mold, and then pouring cement. I made this craft project with my friend, but the idea belongs to me. I really like this concrete soap holder.

Total Time: 30 Min + 4-5 Days for drying cement and varnish

Supplies:

cement (preferably high strength)
sand (fine)
water
pebbles about 5 cm long
primer for cement
acrylic varnish
crushed shells
plastic mold rectangular shape, length 17 cm, width 8-9 cm, height 6-7 cm
plastic bag
container for making concrete
spoon for mixing and pouring concrete

Steps:

Place a plastic bag in the mold for the soap stand.
Lay out the pebbles in one layer so that the top of the pebbles on which the soap will lie is at the bottom of the mold. The pebbles should fill the entire shape and fit tightly.

So that during the use of the soap excess moisture drains, and the soap dries faster, the pebbles should rise above the concrete base of the soap stand. To do this, add some sand between the pebbles in the mold. Sweep the sand onto the pebbles with a brush. A layer of sand should reach the middle of the pebbles.

Make concrete: mix cement and sand in a ratio of 1 to 1-2, then add a little water and mix the concrete well.
Spray pebbles with water and pour the concrete. Concrete should completely cover the pebbles.

Leave the concrete to harden and dry for several days.
Pull the soap stand out of the mold. Sand the edges and rinse.

To decorate, glue the crushed shells in the front using instant glue.

Apply primer and varnish.

That is really pretty! I have always wanted to try concrete crafts but am a little afraid of the medium since it is not forgiving. Any tips or tricks to making it all work? Thanks for sharing your idea!

There is nothing difficult here! I usually use the highest grade cement, especially when I cast small things.
The proportion for mixing cement with sand is written on the bag. But for casting small things, I usually make a ratio of 1 part cement and 2 parts sand, sometimes 1 to 1.

First, you need to mix sand with cement very well, and then gradually add water, mixing all the time and keeping an eye on the consistency of the concrete. It is very difficult to say exactly how much water to add, since the sand is never completely dry. The consistency should not be very thick, otherwise not all cavities in the mold will fill, but not like milk. If the consistency is too thin, then add cement and sand again. Mix everything well.

If the mold is made of plastic, then it must be lubricated, but if you use a plastic bag, then there will never be any problems with removing it from the mold.

After pouring concrete into the mold, be sure to shake the mold a little so that the bubbles come out to the surface.
And then leave to harden it and dry very good.

It is best to let the concrete dry slowly, so cover the mold with plastic bag and wait. Do not try to speed up drying by raising the temperature. If the concrete thing is not large, it is best to leave it to dry for a week. It is better to wait longer than ruin when taking out from the mold. The strength of cement only increases over time.

Try to cast something small first and don't be afraid. I'm sure you will succeed!
