Peanut oil is excellent for cooking at high temperatures, since it has a high smoking point. I use it a lot for wok cooking. Do not use if any guests have a peanut allergy.

One of the main reasons to use vegetable oil is that it is virtually tasteless so it will not add any other taste to the recipe.

Peanut is an excellent oil, just be sure there is no one around that is allergic to peanuts.

Personally, I believe peanut oil adds a little nutty flavor but that may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Someone pointed out that peanut oil was best (or better) for any high-heat cooking so that is a point to remember.
It would seem that one or the other could be used just according to what you are cooking.

I love Wikipedia for all kinds of information and they have a very good site pertaining to cooking oils. Maybe this would help you decide:

Peanut oil is excellent for outdoor cooking like turkey frying and a fish fry. It is expensive, essentially because you need to use so much of it at a time. I have never used it for normal indoor cooking.
