Dress Dye Transferred onto Kimono?

I have a 100% polyester kimono, that is ivory in color. I wore it with a maroon dress. Although, I have washed the dress several times, the maroon dye rubbed off on my kimono. Now my ivory kimono has a pink hue. Please, please help me get this back to its original color. Keep in mind this is hand wash only. Thanks in advance.

I do not believe that Rit makes a color grabber; only a color remover(?) and that will not remove color run but will remove color.

  • The color grabbers are now doing the same type of action as the color catchers so you will have to look for color run removers to remove the rubbed on dye.
  • You can use these in a basin (hand wash) and try it with cold water but warm water may work better.
  • These products are sold at Walmart/Target type stores but be sure to read the instructions before you buy or use. Be sure it is not a product to catch the color when you do laundry as what you want is something to remove the color run.

I had luck with a cotton poly blend sweater that had the same issue by leaving it sit overnight in a bucket of cold water with 3 quarts of water and 2 cups white vinegar...then wash normally. If it does not work the first time, repeat but this time add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the mix. It will fizz up. But that is ok. Hope you have success like I did.

I would use the Rit Color Grabber in a sink with cool water.
