Dye Ran on Knitted Sweater?

My mother-in-law knitted a two tone (green and cream) western sweater cardigan for my husband many years ago. We were planning on giving it to a grandson, but I wanted to clean it first. I now have a color run sweater, is there a chance of a remedy?
