Only the Social Security Administration can answer your questions. You can find some information via their website but should have all of your questions answered by visiting their local office.
There are some excellent books out there now that give a wealth of information on this very subject. I googled a question on when is the best time to retire and take social security.
If you are asking for the "old" girlfriend then it would be that person who should ask the question - at her local SSA office.
I do not believe there will be any benefits available unless there is a child involved. Benefits are not usually available to even a wife unless they have a child or are disabled.
