Finding Donated Fabric for Charity Project

Utah Youth Village, a charity that takes care of troubled foster children, has a tradition of giving each graduate a handmade quilt. We have found an organization who wants to make the quilts, we just need fabric. Any ideas?

Some ideas how to find/get donated fabric. Good luck :)

  • You can reach out to local businesses with a brief overview/mission of your charity and if they'd like to help out by contributing something and in return perhaps each handmade quilt will include a little 4x6 thoughtful card and sponsor logos on who helped made this possible.
  • You could reach out to fabric companies if they are willing to let you have scraps or discontinued fabric for a low cost, or free.
  • You could also check free cycle, craigslist if anyone is giving free fabric , or post a wanted.
  • You could also check goodwill, thrift stores to see if they sale any.
  • Fundraise

I am a volunteer in a thrift shop. We get a lot of donated fabric, some just odd pieces which we bundle together and sell in one lot VERY inexpensive, also get it donated by large pieces on one patterned or solid color which also is put out for sale at a low price, I am sure if you should ask at a thrift and tell what you are planning they would be glad to donate to you.
