Finding Free Furniture?

I need help to get a bed and furniture. I was homeless, but saved all my money and got a one bedroom apt.

If you have access to the internet, there are facebook groups for most towns and cities where people post stuff they are giving away for free

Sounds like you have made great strides to improve your life and your life style so I hope everything will work out well for you in the future.

Hopefully you now have a job and will be able to buy some of the essentials you will be needing, but, as a general rule, most people are very generous and actually like to help people who are trying to improve their lifestyle.

  • The most important thing for you to think about is whether you have some type of vehicle to be able to pick up anything that someone offers. Most people will not provide help with loading or delivering whatever they are offering for free. You will also need help unloading and moving large items into your apartment (hopefully it is on the ground floor!).
  • To do any search you will need the use of a computer. If you do not have one, maybe use a friends or even the library if necessary.
  • If this is not a problem then perhaps you could start your search on Nextdoor.com as this is a site that has items listed for sale and also free items that should be located in your immediate area. This is a great site as you can find out all about some of your neighbors as it is a community site.

Nice things going on in your area.
  • You can also place an ad asking for free items that you need and even telling your story may get quick results. Items from close by may not present such a big delivery problem. Check out this site first as you will also need bedding to go with your "new" bed. Always be aware of cleanliness as bugs (especially bedbugs) will move right along to a new home.
  • nextdoor.com/
  • There are other places to look as well but some of these ads could be from a long distance from your area.
  • Your local Craigslist and FreeCycle are the 2 most prominent ones but there are several other sites to check. These have ads offering free items and you can post your own request for items you need also.
  • There are also other local places to ask for help; local church, Salvation Army, church thrift stores. Some of these may have items like this but they may also help with other items you will be needing.

  • Good luck and I hope you are at the beginning of a happy and productive life.

Prayers for you and your ongoing succeses! Blessings on your new place!

If you're a member of a local religious organization, talk to the priest, pastor, rabbi, or leader and ask if they have a free store or services to help parishioners get back on their feet. Many churches in my town offer robust services (some call them wrap around services) to help folks get back on their feet. The local free stores sometimes can help you with volunteers to help transport the items as needed. Some request you work there for so many hours to pay back the services, but that is awesome karma for goodness!! Best wishes for your happiness!!!!

Ive found if I ask around, let people know what you are in need of, oftentimes they know someone who has what you need.

First place to look and keep checking is the trash area for your apartment complex. From the poorest to the very nicest apartments, people are always moving and leaving okay stuff.

Walk around your neighborhood area on trash collection day , as well as day before if you live in residential area.

Last day of garage and estate sales are great, especially end of day on last day. Especially estate sales because sellers just want the house emptied so they can sell the house.

Unless you have a car/truck or friend with same, hard to go outside of your own area.
