Think small apartment size furnishings. Love seat, or two reclining chairs. Coffee tables are not an absolute, and a small stand (with drawer & shelf) can go between the chairs or next to the love seat. A book case to hold books, magazines, trophy, etc. You could place a table lamp on top of the book case for additional lighting or get a floor lamp. Having enough floor space keeps things from being cramped up looking and a big area rug in the middle of the room adds a bit of pizazz. Hang a painting, mirror, or photos on the wall and you've got comfortable living room quarters, and maybe hang a live or artificial plant from the ceiling.
Work from the ends of the room, use very little furniture and keep the pieces small. Remember mirrors help to make a room look bigger. Depending on door placement maybe try two small round soft comfy chairs in one end of the room with a lamp/table between. A round ottoman with storage in front of the chairs for both to use. In the other end have your entertainment equipment low key. Maybe a tall plant or really spectacular lamp in the corner. Put your money into the center floor space with a rug that will catch the eye, make the room look wider by going with stripes that go across the room in splashes of color or design. Again it all depends on door placement. On your long wall a framed mirror with smaller prints along the side.
