Getting Rid of Small Brown/Black Bugs in an Apartment?

Getting Rid of Small Brown/Black Bugs in an ApartmentI have been seeing these little brown/black bugs everywhere in my apartment. What are these bugs called? They are really small. How can I get rid of them? These tiny brown/black bugs have a smell like chemicals when you kill them. They are crawling on the bed, and in the bathroom, kitchen, and living room. I'm so scared because I have kids. I really want to get rid of them fast. Can someone help me to see what these bugs are called and how to get rid of them fast?

They look like water bugs. Make sure you have any leaks repaired by the landlord and tell him to get an exterminator.

A quick fix is vacuum them up, double bag the vacuum bag and toss in the trash can furthest from the house. Leave the vacuum cleaner on the porch or in the garage until the issue is resolved, then do a thorough cleaning of the machine.

Earwigs and stink bugs are the two I know that smell awful when squashed and yours definitely don't look like stink bugs. Not clear to me from pix, but I don't think it is an earwig, either. Check the link against the picture here www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/earwig.htm

To me they look like some kind of baby beetle, but the pictures blur when I enlarge them.

Best to jar up a few and take to the hardware store or if you are renting, have your landlord check to get an ID. There are lots of natural solutions once you get a name that will be safe around your kids. Let me know what you learn and I can make suggestions for chemical free solutions!

In the short term, keep the areas dry, remove excess paper and cardboard and look for holes around windows, doors and the foundation that will need to be repaired.

Good luck!

this may sound weird but they actually look like lightning bugs to me. Do they light up at night? And yes, they have smelled bad when I have accidentally killed them, and the body looks identical
